MICROSOFT EXCEL TIPS AND TRICKS


Easy Data Entry
Save time with these quick and easy ways to enter data in an Excel worksheet:

  • Enter current date: [Ctrl] + ;
  • Repeat data from cell immediately above: [Ctrl] + ' (single quote)

Easy Date Entry
When typing a date into Excel, just enter the month, slash, day such as 7/15 and then press [Enter]. Save keystrokesno need to type the yearExcel assumes that it is the current year. The display of the date depends on the formatting of the cell.

Easy Worksheet Management
Right-click on any sheet tab (Sheet1, Sheet2, etc.) for a shortcut menu of worksheet options. This is a quick way to rename, delete, add, change colors, copy, and more.

Rename a Worksheet
Double-click on any sheet tab (Sheet1, Sheet2, etc.) to highlight the sheet name. Type a new name and press [Enter]. Tip: avoid ALL CAPS which increases the width of the sheet name.

Editing a Cell
Options for editing text, values or a formula in a cell include:

  • Typing a new entry in cell (no need to delete previous contents)
  • Double-click on cell to open "in-place editing"
  • Click once into the formula bar (above column headings)
  • Press [F2] to open cell for editing
  • Press [Delete] to clear contents (cell is empty but retains formatting)

When a cell is opened for editing, click with the mouse or use arrow keys, [Backspace], [Delete], [Home] and [End] to navigate in the cell.


ADOBE ACROBAT TIPS AND TRICKS

Making Room on the Screen
If you have opened a number of Acrobat toolbars and want to return to the default set, choose View > Toolbars > Reset Toolbars. Acrobat closes the extras and the layout reverts to the default toolbars in the default locations.

Zooming In and Zooming Out
Try these keyboard shortcuts to quickly change or zoom the view of any document open in Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader:

  • Zoom Out: [Ctrl] + "+" (increase by 25% each time)
  • Zoom In: [Ctrl] + "-" (decrease by 25% each time)
  • Fit Page: [Ctrl] + 0 (zero)
  • Actual Size: [Ctrl] + 1
  • Fit Width: [Ctrl] + 2
  • Fit Visible: [Ctrl] + 3

Reflow Your View
If a document is highly magnified, some of the content may not be visible. To improve readability, press [Ctrl] + 4 to engage the Reflow mode. While viewing the PDF document with Reflow turned on, you can increase or decrease the magnification settings and Acrobat or Reader will immediately reflow the text. Also available under View > Reflow.


INTERNET EXPLORER TIPS AND TRICKS

Easy URL Entry-Your New Favorite Shortcuts
How many times a day do you click into the Internet Explorer (IE) address bar and then type WWW [dot] SOMETHING [dot] COM? Try these great shortcuts together to speed up just about every entry into your browser address bar:

  • Go to the Address bar: [Alt] + D
  • To automatically add www. before, and .com after, what you're typing in the Address bar and go to that site: [Ctrl] + [Enter]

For instance, to the Microsoft website, press [Alt] + D, then type microsoft, and then press [Ctrl] + [Enter].

See how many clicks and keystrokes you can save with these two combinations.

Stop and Refresh
To save time loading and updating web pages:

  • To stop downloading a web page: [Esc]
  • To refresh the current web page: [F5] or [Ctrl] + R

Change Your Browser Window
Customize the view of your IE browser window with these tricks:

  • To show or hide the History bar: [Ctrl] + H
  • To show or hide the Favorites bar: [Ctrl] + I
  • To toggle full-screen mode on or off: [F11]

Find in a Web Page
Save time finding a word or phrase on a web page with a quick
find. This shortcut is especially handy when you get to a page
via a search engine but the search term you are looking for is not quickly found.
